Mt Royal house gutted by fire

A Mt Royal Resident was left staring sadly at what was once his home, now reduced to a shell following an early Monday morning blaze.

Godwin Ray, when contacted for a comment said that he was too distressed and shocked at the incident to speak of what happened.   He also pointed out that the neighbours were in a better position to detail what may have occurred, as he was only concerned with scampering to safety.

When contacted, the fire department at the Carriacou branch of the Royal Grenada Police Force said that they first received a call at 5:05 a.m. that a house in Mt Royal was on fire.

They said that on arrival they were unable to get close to the burning house, as there was a live high-tension wire across the road, which was severed due to the heat of the blaze from the 48x50 two-storey brick house.

They pointed out that it took some two hours before the danger of the live wire was neutralised then they began using the fire truck in an attempt to salvage some of the contents and the structure of the house.

However, they said that by this time the house was completely engulfed in flames.  Reports are that the entire inside and all of the contents were completely destroyed.

The fire it was reported, apparently started in a small brick building that had been attached to the first floor of the house.

Police have confirmed that investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire.
