Storm Surge Battered West Coast

Storm Surge Battered West Coast

Although Hurricane Maria was hundreds of miles away from Carriacou when it dealt its destructive blow to the Northern Caribbean, its negative effects were also felt here.

Several huge waves bruised and battered parts of the western coastline.  One of the areas, which show signs of the severe pounding of the waves, is the popular Mermaid beach Hotel.

The waves removed a large portion of sand and created a sudden drop from the top class hotel to the beach.  The waves also removed a large quantity of sand from the seafront of the Fish Center. However, the effects were different in some areas of the coastline where the waves created a build-up of sand.
