A well-known Inspector of police charged with indecent assault is now on $9,000 bail. This followed sex related allegations brought against him by a foreign national last Friday.
According to information reaching the Grenada Informer, Inspector Clevroy Antoine formerly attached to the South St George Police Station was accused of sexually assaulting the female complainant whom we were told went to the station to make a report.
Sources told this newspaper that shortly after the complainant, a Grenadian by birth but a citizen of Canada entered the station last Tuesday; the senior officer escorted her into his office. Informer learned that it was while in his office, Antoine allegedly made certain sexual advances on the complainant including touching her in private areas.
Not pleased with what had transpired we were told, the matter was subsequently reported the officer in charge of the station who launched an investigation. After the incident, this newspaper was told, Inspector Antoine was asked by his superiors through the Public Service Commission to take leave from active duty to allow for a full investigation into the matter. On Tuesday he was summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department for questioning and on Wednesday morning the charge of indecent assault was slapped on him.
Antoine is known for his no nonsense and strict approach to law enforcement and many members of the public are shocked at the nature of the allegations made against him.
According to information reaching the Grenada Informer the charge against Antoine is of a summary nature and therefore if convicted he faces a term of imprisonment not exceeding 5 years.
Meanwhile, Informer was told that two other senior police officers are under close scrutiny by the leadership of the RGPF in response to accusations of misuse of significant sums of money. Informer will continue to follow this matter closely.
