Another senior ranked police officer has severed ties with the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) under questionable circumstances.
According to information reaching the Grenada Informer, the well-known and highly respected member of the Royal Grenada Police Force Band allegedly tendered his resignation to the Police Commissioner Winston James within weeks after leaving the island in his private capacity.
Inside sources told this newspaper that this latest resignation, coming on the heels of the suspension of Inspector of Police Clevroy Antoine, has not only sent shock wave within the RGPF but also left a vacuum at the helm of the department.
What is of concern, our sources noted, is the gravity of the rumours circulating as relates to the reasons behind this latest development. While we pay no mind to gossip, this newspaper was told by reliable sources that the named officer in question is being accused of being responsible for getting a thirteen-year-old child pregnant. Therefore the resignation seems as a move to save face and escape the jaws of the law.
Sources told the Informer that prior to leaving the country the officer in question sold most of his personal items, but never indicated to his peers that he was retiring from the RGPF.
In fact, one senior police officer told our news desk that as far as he is concerned, the officer is on vacation, and he couldn’t speak to any allegation neither was he in a position to say how long is the vacation.
Informer also spoke to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution as it relates to any investigation. We were told that no such information has reached that office, neither were they in a position to say whether or not any complaint was lodged at any police station by a social worker, medical personnel or parent on any such matter.
What we can say however is that an official resignation has been lodged with the police high command and is expected to be reviewed by the Public Service Commission when it resumes normal operations on September 4th.
