Antonio Lewis sentenced to nine months on three criminal charges

  • Written by  The Grenada Informer

Antonio Lewis of Gladstone Road Grenville, a man who has been living in and out of jail is back behind bars. He will serve nine months in jail; three months each for three criminal charges to run consecutively.

The accused pleaded not guilty of assault on a police officer, disorderly behaviour and obstruction when he appeared before Magistrate Nevlyn John at the Grenville Magistrate court last Wednesday. However, he was found guilty on evidence produced by Corporal Fortune, his arresting officer.

Fortune told the court that during the carnival period he and other officers were on an operation in the Sendall Street/Trench Town area when he was interrupted by Lewis who attempted to prevent him from carrying out his duties.  During the confrontation, Lewis slapped Fortune across the face and then continued throwing punches at him. Fortune told the court that the accused was later subdued amidst severe resistance with the assistance of other officers. He was taken to the Grenville Police Station where he was formally charged and cautioned but this did not deter him from his misconduct.

When Lewis has completed his nine months jail, he is bonded for six months from going around the Sendall Street/Trench Town area and should he be found in the area, he would be in breach of the bond and would go to jail for three months. In addition, Lewis has a drug matter pending before the court.
