Grenada recaptures OECS Boxing Championship title

Grenada recaptures OECS Boxing Championship title

The OECS Boxing Championship title is back in the hands of Grenadians having powered their way to championship honors last Saturday at the Grenada Youth Centre.

Grenada amassed a total of seventeen points, three points ahead of second placed St Lucia, who finished on fourteen points.  Third place went to St. Vincent and the Grenadines with seven points and bringing up the rear was the defending champion Dominica finishing on three points.

  Holding the spotlight for Grenada was former OECS and Caribbean Champion Joel Lewis fighting in the Lightweight category. He defeated Rolson Emron of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Imrod Batholomew fighting in the light heavyweight category defeated Arthur Langelier from St Lucia and the star of the evening was Dariel Sylvester from the Sister Isles of Carriacou fighting in the heavyweight category with the shortest fight in the tournament; defeating Jonte Claudel Kiante James of St Vincent and the Grenadines in 45 seconds.

 According to First Vice President of the Grenada Boxing Association Johnson St Louis, the 2015 tournament was a major success. He thanked all who contributed in one way or another to make the event the success it was.
