Media workers slapped with Drug Trafficking Charge

Two members of the media profession, taken into police custody last Thursday shortly after getting off one of the inter-island ferries from the sister island of Carriacou on drug related suspicions have been placed on forty thousand dollars bail. 

Sources told this newspaper, that shortly after detaining the two men, 26-year-old Ahkir Abdulaheem, attached to the Government Information Service and Joel Liverpool Aka Outlaw, attached to Boss FM, the lawmen that were acting on special intelligence arrested and charged them with trafficking the controlled drug, cocaine.

Senior ranked Police officer resigns Reasons raise serious questions

Another senior ranked police officer has severed ties with the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) under questionable circumstances.

According to information reaching the Grenada Informer, the well-known and highly respected member of the Royal Grenada Police Force Band allegedly tendered his resignation to the Police Commissioner Winston James within weeks after leaving the island in his private capacity.

National Democratic Congress caretaker for St. George South-East Sen.Franka Bernadine says she is disturbed by the recent atrocity of the rape of a twelve-year-old girl by three older men.

This incident she says sparked concern in the NDC prompting a resounded call to the present administration for a Special Victims Unit to deal with these special offences.

The National Democratic Congress has been dealt a major blow as its last candidate to contest this twin isle constituency, has now thrown his support behind the New National Party to the extent that he is a member of the executive.

This has now put months of speculation to bed as Randolph Harrison Fleary, has been unanimously elected to help steer the party to victory at the next general elections.

Forty-eight-year-old man remanded to prison for stealing wheelchair

A 48-year-old man who frequented the Carrier/Conference, St Andrew area with no fixed place of abode appeared before the Grenville Magistrate’s Court last Monday, charged with stealing one wheelchair valued at $500.00, the property of 62- year-old Ralda Poncho.

The accused Denroy Charles pleaded guilty to stealing the wheelchair and was remanded to custody at the Richmond Hill Prison in spite of his pleas to sentence him instead. Charles told the court he didn’t want to be remanded, as he is fearful of being beaten up by other inmates.

Grenada National Swim Team Repesents At The Goodwill Swim Meet

Grenada’s National Swim team was represented at the XXIII edition of the Goodwill Swim Meet from August 18-20 at the National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal Guyana. 

Swimmers of the 8-member team departed Grenada on August 17th to participate in the competition for the first time since 2009. The Goodwill meet is one of the premier developmental swim meets in the region in preparation for higher levels of competition such as the CARIFTA, CCCAN and OECS swim meets. Each year Goodwill invites 1-2 additional teams and Grenada was invited to participate after 8 years of absence.

Uprising off to a winning start in St. Mark Football Tournament

After a three-year break, the 2017 St. Mark Football Tournament got off to an exciting start at the Alston George Park in Victoria on Saturday.

The tournament began with a colourful march past involving some six of the nine participating teams and a formal ceremony that included short addresses from the organisers and Parliamentary Representative for St Mark Hon. Clarice Modeste. Then the long football drought in Victoria was finally put to rest with an exciting opening match that saw the men from Coast Guard sending a powerful message with a convincing 7 goals to 2 victories in game one.

CENTENARIAN DIES

The sister isles is mourning the passing of centenarian, Wilhemena McLaren of Windward.

Mrs Mclaren who celebrated her milestone on Wednesday, May 17th of this year passed away on Sunday morning at her home.
